Mission

"Lone Star Human Services is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes local resources,  volunteers, and networks to respond to the health, educational and housing needs of underserved communities."

Our purpose is to provide comprehensive social services to low income residents in poverty stricken areas and to ease the burden of the government by operating affordable housing programs and assisting low income clients in obtaining effective education and counseling regarding home ownership, credit and personal finance.

We purchase both multi and single family living quarters to address the needs of the homeless.  We understand the perils of the unemployed and underemployed thus we will assist clients in becoming productive contributors to the tax base by helping them maintain employment.

We will provide employment training opportunities as well as literacy training and counseling in areas that will enhance the probability of the jobless becoming more gainfully employed.

Vision

"A world in which people are positively

Impacted and Inspired to take action together and solve issues of insufficient resources."

Using a collaborative approach to bringing resources and volunteers together, Lone Star Human Services empowers families to achieve self-sufficiency and break the cycle of generational poverty. We operate with the highest integrity, complete transparency, and a passionate commitment to solving issues and creating a better future for our communities.

Our Values

We  empower families to improve their circumstances and achieve self-sufficiency.

We introduce families to opportunities to develop so they may end the cycle of generational poverty.

We are committed to maximizing the impact of donor contributions and produce tangible results.

We perform with integrity, transparency and commitment in all areas.

Resident Engagement

Problem: The low tenure of many multi-tenant residents and neglect from outside organizations has contributed to a community without strong connections to its neighborhood.

Our response: is to organize community events in focus areas to connect residents to each other and stakeholders. We provide opportunities for residents to engage with the wider neighborhood by organizing and promoting community events. We help develop strategies to keep residents connected through stakeholder groups.

Community Services

Problem:  Several residents lack sufficient resources to address setbacks that require health, legal, education and financial services.

Our response: is to create opportunities for residents to connect with community service providers at community events and connect service providers to stakeholders. Identify local services and invite organizations to engagement events.

Hope, Trust, Beautification

Problem: Disengagement in communities tend to create a feeling of hopelessness in addressing the daily challenges being faced by residents.

Our response: is to work from within the community to create safe spaces, programs such as after school programs, and recreational opportunities such as community gardens.

Partnerships

Problem: A lack of communication between community stakeholders and other groups increased gaps in identifying and addressing these challenges.

Our response: Increase engagement of multi-tenant residents in events sponsored by local faith-based organizations. Increase interaction and collaboration among stakeholder groups.

Community Policing

Problem: Relations between residents and officers are marred by a general lack of positive interactions.

Our response:  is to create opportunities for residents and other stakeholders to connect with Neighborhood Police Officers. Neighborhood Police Officers are invited to community events and programs.
